January 2012

Dear SAT members;

All On Board:  NO, REALLY!  The Bus Is HERE!

I am declaring 2012 to be the year for the arts and Skagit Artists Together in Skagit County!  In my Holiday letter, I have mentioned that this is a year to be driven by the membership.  It will also be a year of solidifying as an Art Community!  Please take a moment to consider what a vibrant, viable Art Community means to you...What does that look like? What does it feels like to be a part of?   This is the year we can manifest that vision!

Skagit Artists Together will not have our first meeting in January as we have in the past.  This year, instead, all members are invited to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, January 25th, at 7:00pm at Maple Hall in LaConner. This public forum will address the feasibility of developing an artist live/work project in LaConner!  This would be a facility similar to Schack Art Center/ Artspace!  Yes, it is true!  So many of you have voiced benefits from your affiliation with Schack, and your desire to have our own!  That opportunity may be presented to us!  We need to act as a community!  Please come, and recruit your friends to attend as well!

This year we are sponsoring our first fund raiser as a nonprofit 5013-C organization in collaboration with the Skagit symphony, The April Fools Ball and Auction to Benefit Music and The Arts in Skagit County! Your involvement is crucial to making this a success!  We need committee members to assist putting together auction packages and art donations, and planning this event!  I am looking for a few key players to volunteer on the planning committee. Please let me know if you will play!  As an Art Community, we need to gather funds to position and support our voice!  (sklemmerlenarz@aol.com)

Our first membership meeting will be Thursday, February 23rd, at Padilla, 6:00 dinner, 6:30 meeting.  Our speaker will be Diana Shyne, who will do a visual presentation on travel inspired art, from her recent visit to China.  Please mark the day on your calendar, and invite your friends to join us!  Let's make this our biggest recruitment meeting ever!

The Studio Tour is being planned, Ron Feld is the committee chair.  He will welcome your assistance! Deadline for entry submission is the first week of March, as usual.  Since we do not have our January meeting, we need all members to keep the deadline on their calendars without our meeting reminders.   We are counting on members to keep the buzz alive about SAT in the community, to enroll artists to participate on all our exciting events coming up! (ronfeld@peoplepc.com)

We are scheduling and teaching Family Art Days with The Museum of Northwest Art!  Barbara Silverman Summers will welcome your activity idea for the fall/winter sessions!  (barbara_van_skagit@yahoo.com)

There are opportunities to assist on our board!  We welcome your participation!

I am so excited about this 2012, the Year for Skagit Artists Together, AND The Arts

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Susan Lenarz
