A small, informal group of SAT members, in
association with Tulip Valley Winery, is working to give SAT
members and other local artists an opportunity to show their
work for the month of April 2010 at an exciting location:
Tulip
Valley Winery and Orchard
16163 State Route 536
Mt. Vernon (Memorial Hwy)
This is not an officially sponsored SAT event, and is open
to artists without undergoing the jury process. Because of
the limited amount of time to organize this event for 2010,
the small group of SAT members is coordinating the artists
with the Winery.
This location is NOT a gallery - it is a working winery
barn. The walls are white, and the artwork will be hung
from a utilitarian grid framework. The space may not show
your work to its best advantage, as in a gallery, but it is
a good space with good track lighting and heat. Do not
expect a refined luxury space, however.
Here are a few of the highlights:
Application and fee due February 1, 2010
Fee $65 per artist, no commission, payable to Dianthus
Ceramics by 2/1/2010 to reserve your spot
The venue will be open to the public 7 days per week during
April, 10 AM to 6 PM.
You must sign up for a minimum of 4 shifts to work the venue
during the month - if you cannot work the minimum shifts,
you cannot participate in this event. This is the only way
we can make this opportunity work - to have participants
fully staff all open days / hours. We have not determined
yet if we need to be open on Tuesday / Wednesday - that will
be announced as we get further into planning. Shifts will
be 10 AM - 2 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM.
Setup Date 3/26 - 3/28
Take down date 5/2
We are looking for approximately 30 artists to participate.
Each artist will have limited wall space - about 4 feet
horizontal by 8 feet vertical. The wall will have a grey
utilitarian "grid" that will support your hanging work with
'S' hooks. The grid holes are about 1.5" square, and the
thickness of the grid is about 1/2", so you will need to
make sure your 'S' hooks will attach to that kind of
surface. More information on acceptable 'S' hooks will come
out as we get closer to the event. Art may NOT be hung
directly on the walls. I have attached a photo of the space
(about 60' long by 14' wide at the far end) and a shot of
the grids that we would use to hang wall art from.
The artwork is NOT insured during the event. Any losses due
to theft, damage, or disaster are not covered.
If you have vertical panels that can attach to the above
grid, you can attach a perpendicular panel to the wall,
making a 'U' shaped space. However, you can only use the
side of such a panel on the inside of the 'U', so that your
immediate neighbor is not impacted with your work
overlapping theirs. Small card stand-up racks or print
racks are also permitted, but space is again limited.
We would encourage you to bring smaller work, in the "$100
and under" price range. The winery tasting room is separate
from the artwork area, but all within the same building and
customers can easily move between the spaces. The winery
typically has many many visitors during Tulip Festival,
including bus tours, during their business hours. This
customer base tends to be more interested in the easy to
carry, lower cost items.
There will be room for outside tents where we can have
artist demonstrations, so keep that in mind if you would
like to do a demo during the month.
The space will be reserved on a first come / first served
basis.
