2010 Call to Artists
Project:
The
Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation announces a call to
artists for its Fine Art Program now through Monday, July
30, 2010.
Cash
Award:
$7,500
will be awarded to the winning selection. The work of one
artist or artist team will be selected for Skagit Valley
Hospital’s newly remodeled south lobby.
Requirements:
The
Skagit Valley Hospital Fine Art Program seeks artists or
artist teams to create a public artwork for Skagit Valley
Hospital’s newly remodeled south lobby. The ideal artwork is
one which is an unexpected and delightful encounter for
visitors to the hospital. Both 1-D and 2-D artworks will be
considered.
The
Skagit Valley Hospital Fine Art Program with the support of
the Skagit Valley Hospital Guild is continuing its
commitment to fine art in the hospital with this project
designed to create an exciting attraction at one of the main
entrances to Skagit Valley Hospital.
This is
an ideal opportunity for either emerging or experienced
artists who would like to further develop a piece that can
engage a variety of audiences as well as add to the arts
experience and compliment the healing environment of Skagit
Valley Hospital.
The
successful project will create an awe-inspiring reaction
through visual distinction. Open to all mediums, including
glass, metal and fiber, the artwork piece or pieces must
securely fit on the large west wall of the lobby. Work must
fit a space of 14 ft. long by 5 ft. tall.( Wall is 31 ft by
8 ft) This can include multiple pieces.
Selection Process & Timeline:
A
selection panel will consist of fine art committee members,
guild representatives and professional artists will evaluate
the proposals. Finalists should be prepared to interview
with the selection panel.

Eligibility and Application:
The call is open to Island, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom
County professional artists. Selection criteria include:
applicant’s qualifications, proposal, depictions of design
work, artistic merit, and proven ability to complete a
project of this scope.
Application must include: cover letter, professional resume,
two references, proposal summary – concept, execution, and
fabrication and installation requirements.

Notification of Results
The
artists whose work is selected will be notified by phone.
All other applicants will receive notification by mail of
the panel’s decision by October 4, 2010. Skagit Valley
Hospital Fine Art Program reserves the right not to select
any of the applicants.
How to
apply
Please
submit the following materials:

list numbers should correspond to image numbers on the CD

(artists name on the CD and CD cover)
Ø
Title
each image with artist’s name, title, and image number. Use
all lower case fonts with no spaces.
(ex:
skagitvalleyhospitalartwork1.jpeg).
Ø
CD
submission must be in high resolution for future hard copy
printing- 300 dpi.
Ø
The
longest pixel dimensions - 1500x2100 using a high resolution
JPEG format.
Ø
$20 for
2 entries, $5 for each additional entry with a maximum of
five entries.
Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope
If you
would like your submission returned, a self-addressed
stamped envelope, that is large enough to return a CD, must
accompany application materials. Every effort will be made
to safely handle materials however the Skagit Valley
Hospital Fine Art Program will not be held responsible for
loss or damage. Use your own address as the return address
to ensure return in the event of insufficient postage on
your envelope.
